Re: [pct-l] weekendhiker

Hey, Muir is a piece of cake weekender for a young stud like you

1- Take trail at Lake Sabrina towards Hungry Packer Lake. Just before the lake
cross country on a use trail to Moonlight lake and continue up canyon to Echo
Lake [A stud like you ought to make this 6 miles before breakfast]
2- From the east side of Echo lake work up to the bench south of the lake[by
Clyde Spire]. The correct pass is to the right [west] of the saddle, atop a
chimney marked by black rock. It is NOT the easier pass to the left [south].
This is a mere class 3 [ice axe required] pass. Descend a short chute to the
south, veer east to the western shore of Lake 11,428. Continue south over a
small ridge, then turn west and descend a chute and meet the JMT/PCT above the
third lake down from the pass at about 11,030. [This is a lousey two miles and
you only have a couple of miles to go to lunch at the Hut. No problem]
3-From Muir Pass hike the "virtually flat" five (5) miles on trail to Saphire
Lake. [Even allowing for a nice lunch break you should get here by 3PM. Relax,
set up camp. Get off the trail early. Why kill yourself]?
4-South of Saphire leave the trail and following the outlet stream of Lake
11,808 cross north of Lake 11,338, then turn west and cross north of Lake
12,021. Traversing south of Mt Wallace and north of a small glacier gain the low
saddle south of Mt. Wallace. From here descend to the saddle west of Echo Lake
and descend to the western shore. You are now about five (5) miles [mostly
trail] from the trailhead

Tom
