[pct-l] Bears in Southern CA ?

Does anyone have access to the official "bear census" info for Southern CA? I 
spoke with an unconfirmed source last Friday who reported that there are " 
... 4 bears in the San Jacinto area and 700+ bears in the San Bernardino 
area."

I don't mean to cause panic here, but perhaps we need to practice proper 
(safe) food storage long before we reach the high Sierras. I know that most 
of the bear conversation has been directed at areas north of San Jacinto and 
San Bernardino Mountains. I didn't want that to imply that bears do not exist 
in the southern mountains. 

One can't be "too rich, too thin, too good-looking, nor too careful" with 
your food out there.
