As per Schaffer (Guidebook Author), this won't work well. The USGS topos
are based on arial photos and are not adequately field checked. Geograpic
features are inaccuratley placed on the maps, sometimes up to 1/2 mile off. 

The GPS will show the correct locations. Schaffer said he drew the line
representing the trail in relation to where the features were drawn on the
map, not where it should go accoring to lat and long.

If you shoot for a pass with your GPS accoring to lat-long taken from the
map, you may end up on top of the peak a half mile to one side.
