They got to Castella, CA last night (6/23) after a 30 mile leg. They
struck off for Seiad Valley tomorrow as they continue to push north. The=

ran into major snow the 1st day out of Burney on the way to Castella. =
There is lots of snow and the amount of blowdowns are unbelievable. In
Castella, there is a restaurant/bar with hot meals, but is only open Thur=
s
- Sun. No laundromat or any way to get to Dunsmere other than hitching.
On section O, they said that ice axes are a must now. There are major wa=
sh
outs and blow downs. They finally quit the trail and took 38N-10 service=
road into Castella. Now staying at a state park campground in Castella
before striking out in the morning.
They said to watch for the poison oak and poison ivy - lots of it in this=
section.
