[pct-l] Count me in.
Hello all,
I've been lurking for quite some time and finally wanted to introduce
myself to the list. I'd like to throw my name in with the rest of the
prospective '98 PCT thru hikers. My name is Stephen Martin, AKA Troubadour
GA->ME '94.
I've been soaking in what everybody has been saying and have picked up some
great info.
I'd like to open a discussion about training for the hike. I've read
Jardine's book and feel he goes a bit overboard on this subject. My plans
are a bit straight forward. I just plan on running. I'll be at 10 miles a
day by Feb 1. That's my goal at least. I live in Manhattan, so I'm kinda
limited in terms of what I can do. I suppose I could slap on the pack and
walk around central park! Perhaps practice my bear bagging there as well!
;-)
On another topic. I got several REI gift certificates for Christmas and
picked up a titanium cooking pot. It is extremely light! Does anyone have
experience with this kinda pot? I'm concern about the way titanium loses
heat and wonder if I'll be negating the weight loss by having to compensate
with more fuel.
Also, I know it's early still, but does anyone have an estimated start
date? I would like to start in a group down south. I'm not looking for a
strict partner, but traveling in a group is fun socially as well as for
safety reasons.
Thanks in advance for your replies. I can't wait till spring. When the
skyline of Manhattan is in my review mirror it will be sweet euphoria!
