[pct-l] Horse trails
re: Hoof prints in the trail.
I help build and repair trails that are used by people (running,
walking and wheelchairs), horses and even bicyclists.
A trail for multiple users needs far more attention to location,
width and soil that one for people only. If the hoof prints are deep, then
the trail was not on suitable dirt. Maybe there was no choice at that
location. Maybe the dirt was normally suitable, but not in that season
because of lack of drainage or a change in spring water.
A trail must be suitable for its intended use, or the problems
mentioned will occur.
