Let me play the devils advocate for a moment here. Some of the best
trips I have had have been on "way trails" (trails not maintained).
Don't run into a lot of people either! Why not let the Forest Service
maintain "heavy use" trails and let the others return to nature?
If enough trail users care about maintaining certain trails, they should
volunteer to help maintain those trails. Seems to work well on the AT.
