[pct-l] Highsierracrampons?

New to list, and to all hello.

My father & I are staring at the realities of  hiking the PCT this year. 
We are both as prepped as one can be, with the exception of one 
questioned area, "crampons." I know it's pretty much in how ol mother 
nature treats the higher elevations, but just how vital are these 
cumbersome tools. In other words, are they worth the weight?
What we have currently is made by camp usa. The crampons weigh in at 
 13.5 ounces. Once again I question if they are worth their weight.
Info anyone?
