[pct-l] Yogi's PCT Handbook -- New Edition

I'm proud to announce that I've just finished a new edition of "Yogi's PCT Handbook". I'm really quite proud of this edition. It's EXACTLY what I had in mind when I first created the book two years ago.

So, what's different in this version? Well, the two biggest changes are the addition of pictures to Part 1 (the big pages) and town maps to Part 2 (the small pages). Several hikers contributed pictures, but the majority of the pictures are from Gottago. She's got some amazing pictures on her site www.lindajeffers.com. She was kind enough to let me print many of her pictures in the book.

In September, I visited Ashland OR and all the California trail towns and created town maps. Visiting all the towns again was a lot of fun! I'm really pleased with how the maps turned out. These are a great addition to the Part 2 pages of the book.

If you already have a book and you're hiking in 2006, do you need to buy a new one? That depends on how much of a data geek you are. (big surprise -- I'm a HUGE data geek). This new edition has updated information from several 2004 hikers, Batteries (2005), and Scott Williamson. Scott knows of a few secret springs which I've never heard of before. If you'd like to have this new information with you when you hike, then get the new edition. If not, then don't bother.

Some people have emailed and asked me if I'll have a supplement available for those who have purchased the book already. I started to create a supplement, but there were so many changes that it started to look suspiciously like the new "Part 2" pages. So, I abandoned the idea of the supplement.

Anything you order now is the new edition. There are two options available. You can get:

(1) the whole book
(2) or only Part 2 (small pages)

I have tentative plans to hike SOME TRAIL in 2006 (not sure which trail yet). As of today, I don't have any family members who are willing to mail out books for me next summer, so books PROBABLY will not be available to purchase between approximately April 15 through approximately November 1, 2006. I'm working on my brother-in-law to convince him that he WANTS to help me with the mailing, but I haven't finalized that yet. Soooooooo, if you want a book for 2006, be sure to order before hiking season.

Tonight, I'm boxing up all the books for people who have ordered in the last 2 months (I've been sold out for a while). Any orders placed this week will be mailed out Monday after Thanksgiving. After that, I should be back on track to send out books each day.
