Say guy I remember my dad's backpacking gear he used in the twenties.  Heavy 
canvas tent with cast iron poles and pegs. He also had a canvas knapsack  
weighing about eight pounds.
If any of you know what the song Waltzing with Matilda is, if not it's  a bed 
roll strapped to the top or bottom of your pack. Oh! Yes, the light a  
Carbide lantern. Smoked meat from our smoke house, raw potatoes, ears of  corn, 
berries and nuts picked along the trail plus what you could steal from  passing 
farms. Don't forget a fishing line wrapped around a stick, hooks and  lead 
sinkers. Never without that Kentucky long squirrel rifle, sometimes use on  revenue 
men 
 
Now if you can look at some of the pictures when Muir met with Teddy  
Roosevelt they had similar gear. Now do you want to go back in time?
