[pct-l] No one hike next year!
You go Mimi!
Joseph Niemiec, let me get this straight: You decided to hike the PCT, got really excited about it, joined the PCT-L, hiked the trail - and now you're telling people that are doing exactly what you did last year that they are somehow "cheapening" thru hiking ? A smidge selfish, eh? What do you care if people get excited about next year anyway? It's not like anyone from the future class of 2006 has posted, "Uhhh, ummm, like I totoally think I want to like hike this CPT thing, but I'm not really sure what it is". And even if they had??? And no, the PCT-L isn't for people who are "attached" to the trail - that is a pejorative statement and you make it sound like everyone is has some mental affliction for wanting to join in the fun. So - deflate your ego a bit and let everyone enjoy whatever it is they enjoy most about the PCT, even if it is only the idea of it.
Your post reminds me of a song I know....
Troll, troll, troll your boat
gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily,
life is but a dream.
Three cheers to you not being out there in 2006. The magic will always be there.

What is with the talk about next year already?
It's kinda wierd. Ya hear about this super long hiking trail and think to
yourself, "damn that would be cool to hike." So you sign up to the PCT-L.
And then you get out there and hike it. When you get back you are amazed by
yourself. But you don;t realize that the PCT-L is a place for people who
are "attached" to the trail. So when ya get back people already talk about
the next year's hike...
It just feels too much like an event or something. But it isn't. It's a
long hike with lots of time for self reflection...
I guess I understand peoples need for information, and the PCT-L is a
connection point for hikers, but it just feels cheapened or something - like
it's the ironman or something.
It should be hiked every 4 years like the olympics or something. We need to
keep some magic there!!!
It might just be me, no?
I guess I shouldn''t talk considering that I already hiked the hike... And
I guess I could just log off the PCT-L, but, hmmmm, i don't want to...
