I don't think I'd want to stick my neck out there and advise them on 
carrying crampons and ice axes. That is a decision they must make for 
themselves. If they are going to be at S. Lake Tahoe by 6/28, they can 
definitely expect some snow from there to Donner Summit. By the time 
they get to Section P, most of the troublesome places should be melted 
out. Again, no guarantees, only guesses since few have reported back 
from there.
