[pct-l] Re: Glacier re-route

Tasha,

To hitch from Chelan (the town on the other side of the lake from
Stehekin) to Steven's Pass is missing an entire section, over 100 miles
of trail! It is the Napeequa River which many say is impassible and
the forest service says is extremely dangerous. If you decide you want
to avoid the Napeequa without missing the entire re-route, then follow
my alt route below:

The part I am talking about skipping is about 20 trail miles (between
Trinity and White River Falls) and only about a mile N to S (if you
hitch, 0 if you walk at least that mile S on the road...i.e you can
still skip it and still say you walked from Canada to Mexico N to
S...although the purists will kill me for suggesting it!). If you
really want to be a purist you can walk the whole way (adds about 10
miles). You will still do the majority of the reroute wither way.

Here it is:
Walk from Stehekin to Trinity on PCT and official Glacier re-route,
then walk or hitch (hard to hitch, I imagine, except on the weekend)
following FS Road #62/Chiwawa Road south around Chiwawa ridge. Near
the end, the road swings SW towards Wenatchee lake and is then called
Meadow Creek Road/FS Road #62. It is ~22 mi from Trinity to Lake
Wenatchee State Park. At Lake Wenatchee State Park go right at the T
intersection. It is called White River Road further up but may have a
different name as it follows the north shore of Lake Wenatchee. Follow
White River Road to White RIver Falls Camp Ground to rejoin the
official Glacier re-route (Indian Creek) for ~11 miles before it joins
the official PCT only ~28 miles north of Steven's Pass.

I hope that was clear. I am still kind of groggy from being sick this
week. Please ask if you need clarification. A map of the area should
reveal what I am talking about.

Are you still planning to leave from Manning next week?

HYOH.

Best of luck!
Mara
