[pct-l] bluce_ree is now Pygmy!

Pygmy,

There's a few options, if no rides materialze.

Take the Line 42 Metro bus from LAX to Union Station; from Union Station take the Metrolink train, Antelope Valley Line, to Via Princessa Station in Santa Clarita. From there call Hiker Heaven at 661.268.1235, or the hiker phone at 661.268.1348.

There is a discount shuttle that gets you from LAX to Santa Clarita for around $35. It's the Antelope Valley Airport Express. Call them at 661.945.2529 or 1.800.251.2529 for reservations and schedules. They take you either to Carl's Jr. at San Fernando Road, or Denny's at Sand Canyon. Once you're at either of those two locations, call Hiker Heaven at the numbers above.

See you soon!

L-Rod

Subject: [pct-l] bluce_ree is now Pygmy!

Hello All,
I've completed the PCT up to Big Bear and got off trail for 10 days to visit
friends and family and will return to the trail on the 25th. Fellow hiker
Donna has dubbed me PYGMY and it is now my Trail given name. Thanks Donna.

Question: I'll be flying into LAX on the 25th... any Angels out there
willing to pick up and drop off a Pygmy at Agua Dulce?

Responses to pre-hike questions:
Maps- I would have left maps at home for the A and B sections of the
trail... but that's just me. I found the trail well marked and would only
consider them for the snowed in sections onward (C section onward).

Footwear- Granted I trashed my feet by starting out too aggressive (20, 20,
30 mile days) I started with Trail Running Shoes but switched back to my
good ol Hiking boots and find them MUCH more comfortable. My pack weight is
based at 12lbs but I still prefer the added comfort and support of my
standard boots. Perhaps when my ankles get stronger I'll switch back to
trail runners... but I doubt it. So, pack: ultra-light. Footwear, standard
mountain issue... for this Pygmy anyway. Note: I have very sensitive feet
and ankles, I admire you folks that prefer running shoes!

Freeze Dried Food- Found out that you can just add cold water to the
Mountain House foods and let then sit for 1/2 hour to 1 hour and they
rehydrate just fine. Great to know when you run out of fuel or are
restricted by the elements to use that alcohol stove. I figured this out
when I lost my fuel.

Trail Angels and Hiker Boxes- Treat your Angels with respect and put stuff
in the Hiker boxes when you come across them. Take only what you need. I've
found crampons, tampons, tissues and Cosmo Issues, cowboy hats and I've left
some spats (gators).

aloha all, Pygmy (pka Bluce_ree Superstar)

shout out to the pack: Randy and Diane, Grouvey and Donna, Solid and Stripe,
Slimfast aka Jenni, Mountainfairy, Tarzan and Tombstone, Aloha Ann, State of
Mind, Lost aka Wanderer, Dave and Dave Too (lol), Lisa, Twisted Sister, One
Gallon, Dat, Moose and the rest of you mighty warriors (you know who you
are...).
