[pct-l] Alt Hike from Hope, BC to Stehekin

Hey Roni,

If you guys end up in Hope and want to start from there follow an alt
route that reconnects with the PCT just before Stehekin,
You have to get a ride 40 mi down a road from hope to the boarder at
Ross lake to start at Hozomeen Camp Ground.

It is actually easier/lower elevation that the PCT except 2 climbs: at
4th of July Pass (3501 ft) (awesome campsites with glacial valley
views!) and just before dropping back to Stehekin. It is snow free NOW
except probably for some snow right at park creek pass.

I know you probably want to be on the official trail but I thought you
might want to know about this alternative (more info is good, right?):

From Hozomeen take Hozomeen trail to Willow Lake trail to Lightning
Creek Trail to East Bank trail.
This will essentially take you 40 miles around the back of Desolation
Peak and along the east bank of the very long and skinny Ross lake.
The trail is pretty much flat.

Then cross Hwy 20 and take Panther Creek Trail over 4th of July pass to
join Thunder Creek trail up to Park Creek Pass (6063 ft).
Take Park Creek Trail to the Stehekin Road.

This route parallels the PCT to the west. There are several connector
trails which connect the two.
 From N to S:
Don't know the name (from lightning creek trail and Castle Pass)
Devil's Doom loop (from East bank and Holman Pass)
Ruby Creek Trail + fireroad (from Hwy 20 to Hart's pass
fireroad/FS5400/FS700)
Ruby Creek Trail + Mill creek trail (from Hwy 20 to PCT between Hart's
pass and Rainy Pass)

Alt: roadwalk hwy 20 from Ross lake south shore to Rainy Pass

Anyway, for what it's worth......more trail info.

HYOH,
Mara
