[pct-l] Nicknames

Last year in a job interview I was asked (one of those last-minute, let's
surprise the interviewee and see how she reacts) "why did you pick the trail
name "Ceanothus"? What does it mean, anyway?"

Found out the lawyer interviewing me had googled my name and struck the
proverbial gold on the pct-l.

I explained that Ceanothus is a native plant of about 300 genera, is thorny
and spiny much of the time but knows how to dress up and be elegant once a
year.

I don't know how impressed the lawyer was. I didn't get that job.

I don't know about nicknames, but it's not a TRAILname
until you introduce yourself using the new name. So
although most people are named by others, you choose if
you'll accept the name or not.

 . . . . . ain't that right, Jugdish?!
