[pct-l] RE: Mexican to Canada...I'm afraid not

Hi Chuckie,

In 1975, a friend and I hitched to Campo with a
Border Patrol agent on his way to work. He
recommended that we step over the barbed wire fence
and walk to at least the old building ruins 20 yards
south of the fence (there is a picture of the remains
of this building in the 1st edition California
guidebook). My buddy and I went past the ruins just
to be sure. Things were very very mellow in 1975 at
the border. Later, I would tell every thru-hiker I
met (there were less that 20) that I was the only
person who could claim to have walked from Mexico!!
My TIC comment was never appreciated... ;-)
I'll be at the border next week but this time I'll
just view it from afar rather than dodge bullets.
