[pct-l] Yogi sez.... I say....

I use my balaclava at home on cold nights!!!!? For twenty years I thought my sleeping bag was deficient.? A few times I would even take two bags and put one inside the other and I would still be cold on my butt.? It didn't make sense.? I then started wearing my fleece balaclava and using my crappier bag in 20 degree weather and I would be steaming hot at 2 AM.? I carry two balaclavas, the fleece one for the start of the night when I first get in the bag, and a thin one for when I wake up because I'm too hot.

Speaking of the balaclava . . . I finally started
wearing one on the CDT in 2004. Oh, my, god, what
a wonderful piece of gear! This is the truth: I
wore it for 65 hours straight in Southern Colorado.
Boy did my hair look nappy when I took it off!

What is your favorite advice from Yogi's book? My favorite is the wearing of liner socks and tennis shoes. It's true that other people my have suggested this first, but none more passionately that Yogi. I went from boots with two wools socks to New Balance with liner socks.

Now, my favorite piece of advice is to wear a fleece balaclava to bed. It will make you so toasty. You will realize that it wasn't your sleeping bag that was deficient, but your sleepwear.
