Lots of causes for it but the choice of initial treatment
is typically suppression of stomach acid, which is the
reference to the OTC and Rx meds given by other writers.

But there are lifestyle changes which can help, too.  One
is to eat smaller but more frequent meals, in particular
to large meals before going recumbant (hence my reference
to avoiding large portions at dinner).  Medication is
preferred to surgery, but avoidance is preferred to medication.

You don't have to be an O.F. to get GERD, but it helps.
