[pct-l] does your honey hike too?

My husband and I hike/backpack on the PCT every month.? We did not meet on
the trail, but we met at Boy Scouts, he was the Unit Commissioner and I was the
only female Asst. Scoutmaster for the Venture Crew.? Because we are both
commuters for work, we do not do long distance hiking and since my daughter's
tuition at the university in SFO is HUGE, we will probably be working a long time,
so long distance is out for us.? We are both advisors for a backpacking group
in Girl Scouts, so we can only go on the weekends with the girls because of
school.? When we do get a chance to go for longer durations, like on rare
vacations etc., we always hike/backpack.? In fact, we spent Thanksgiving hiking to
the bottom of the Grand Canyon (we have done the rim-to-rim and to the bottom
several times), and we are leaving in 22 days for Yosemite to snowshoe/hike for
5 days, in June we are taking the Girl Scouts to Bryce Canyon to
backpack/hike for 6 days, and at the end of summer, finally with no kids, we are spending
9 days hiking on the CDT and around Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.? Over
time, you begin to know what your partner can accomplish or not accomplish and
you become a team.? I know my limitations and he has his limitations
(elevation).? You can tell by body language when your partner is struggling or just
needs to rest.? We both know how to compensate for what each other needs which
makes for a great time and lots of fun.? We even seem to enjoy the same foods,
although I love Luna Bars and he hates them.? What's up with that??

Mags' comment about his better half brings up a good topic:? How many of you
have a spouse/significant other who is inclined towards long-distance hiking??
Or not?? How many of you MET your spouse/significant other while
long-distance hiking?? How many of you are trying to persuade your sweeties to give it a
try?

As for myself, I started dating Sarah shortly after I returned from the trail
in 2003.? She'd never been backpacking before (or skiing or mountain biking
for that matter).? We've since moved to Park City Utah & she has really gotten
into all things outdoors (it's hard not to in this place!).? Last summer we
went to CA to pick up a week-long section I had missed, and we'll probably do
the same in OR this summer.? I have asked her to come with me to hike the 500
miles in WA, and she seems into the idea so far!

However, she's not crazy about Liptons either...
