I went through 5 pair of shoes. The New Balance 2001 lasted 750 - 800 miles and the Salomon XA Pro (for the constant wet in the Sierra) lasted not more than 350 miles. I knew when they wore out when my knees and ankles began getting sore. My feet did not change in size during the hike and when I queried other hikers on that topic most said their feet stayed the same size during the hike. I bought all of my shoes prior to the hike and sent them in my resupply boxes. Other than buying a pair in South Lake Tahoe (because of the unexpected short life of the Salomons) my anticipation of where to send them worked out well. Buzz
