[pct-l] sierra transport

We needed to get to a graduation in 2000. We left from Kennedy Meadows with
a hiker leaving the trail and getting back was prearranged - that time. We
rented a car at Inyokern.

Kennedy Meadows is remote. Probably easier getting out than up. But, if you
are there on the week-end, it could work. However, I don't think I'd chance
it. Again, we lucked last year we I needed to go back up and get my car. We
got picked up by a guy in Independence who drove us up for about $50. Well
worth it. Otherwise, it is pretty desolate out there with no shade.

Getting to the PCT from Onyx, however, shouldn't be a problem. Go to the gas
station (near the post office) and ask for a ride up. Lots of folks going
that way, especially in the morning.

Getting to Onyx from the PCT may be a bit more of a problem. But, we lucked
out: a driver going the other direction stopped and took us back down. There
also may be folks camping there who would be willing to drive you into Onyx.
But, if you are going that direction, I would think you could get into
Bakersfield OK.
