[pct-l] 2005'ers: Halfway there!

2005'ers:

In the old Data Book, the halfway mark for the PCT was 0.35 mile before
Highway 36, near Chester. The numbers in the new Data Book are interesting
- sometimes being behind and then ahead of the old mileages. It appears now
that the new halfway point is at mile 1331.75 - 4.05 miles before Hwy 36.
Looking at the recent N CA Guidebook, that puts the halfway mark between the
"seasonal headwaters of Soldier Creek" and its recrossing (5480-4.2) on p.
199, 2nd column. I propose that you pause at the 2nd crossing of Soldier
Creek and drink heartily, toasting yourselves on your valorous achievement.
Those who wait til Hwy 36 will be suffering from DES, Delayed Exultation
Syndrome. You wouldn't want that!

Walk well, Dr. Bob
