[pct-l] Cold Feet and Hands

It can get pretty cold anywhere and any time on the trail, although the
coldest will probably be in Oregon and Washington. Especially if you get
rain and clouds - day after day. In the Sierras, you normally will have
bright sun during the day, so even if there is snow, it really isn't that
cold. But, in OR or WA during September (sometimes even in August) you could
get some freezing days while it is also wet. More than once my shoes turned
to ice overnight (I want to forget those next mornings).

So, make sure you have dry socks at night. If it looks like it is going to
freeze, put your shoes inside your shelter or sleeping bag (wrapped in
plastic bags). Same for socks. Better to have warm wet footwear than
popsicles.
