[pct-l] bicycles

Great reasons. The PCT was partly designed as an equestrian trail. Mountain
bikers, who tend to ride as fast as their abilities allow, do not mix well
with 1,000 lb., slow-moving animals. And demanding courtesy from riders just
does not work all the time. With the improvement in brakes and shocks,
mountain bikes and their riders are capable of descending steep trails at
much faster speeds than they used to even a decade ago.

And if you seriously think that mountain bikes don't cause tread damage, you
obviously haven't not spent much time on trails, or you have a very
different idea of what constitutes "undue treadwear". Most of the "hiking"
trails in and around Ashland have been decimated by mountain bikes, which
have left behind deep ruts and shortcutted switchbacks. And I cannot begin
to count the number of times I have been run off the trail.

There are plenty of trails available to bikers. They don't need this one,
too.

I still fail to see any good reason to prohibit non-motorized bicycles.
Aside from demanding courtesy from riders.

I doubt unmotorized bicycles would cause undue treadwear.
