[pct-l] The gathering

If you missed the gathering last weekend, you missed the best history lesson ever on PCT. We had Barry Murray and his family who were the first to ride the PCT in modern days on horse back during 1970 and 71. Next was Dave Odell's slide show of his Triple crown hiikes. The AT in 1971 were he met about 15 other hikers, the PCT in 1972 when there was Zero guide books ( they actually made one which Thomas Whinett looked at to help make his book. They were even refused breakfast because they had long hair in Oregon near Ashland. One of his buddies ( Wayne Martin) pushed and pulled a wheel all through Oregon to measure trail length. They had snow pics even in Oegon and Washington than year. ( Which helped them crossing lava beds.) Tobie Heaton was there as well who did the PCT in 1972. ( It was like " Field of Dreams" of PCT!!!)
Dave's CDT was a great show as well with his heavy pack, no guide books, etc. Monte
