[pct-l] California Fire Permits

The PCTA wilderness permit does NOT serve as a California fire permit--at
least from what I could find online. One (non-official) site says:
"Sometimes a wilderness permit serves as your fire permit. Other Wilderness
area regulations may require you to have both a fire and wilderness permit.
In wilderness areas where no Wilderness permit is required, you must always
have a campfire permit to build a fire or to utilize a backpack stove."

Although I couldn't find a definitive statement on any of the gub'mint
agencies' sites, poking around on various USFS and CDF sites suggests that:

* You're required to have a California Campfire Permit to have a fire
anywhere on federal lands in California except in developed recreation
sites.

* A wilderness permit (apparently) serves as a campfire permit while you're
in the particular wilderness(es) for which the wilderness permit is issued.

* A campfire permit is required not just for open fires, but also for using
stoves.

* Although the California Campfire Permit is valid throughout the state, the
rules for each area are set by the local USFS superintendent. For example:
"Until further notice, the only type of fires allowed outside of developed
recreation sites in the Angeles National Forest are stoves using gas,
jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel, and a California Campfire
Permit is required for their use. Open wood or charcoal fires or barbecues
are only allowed in provided stoves or fire rings in developed recreation
sites in the Forest. No campfire permit is required for gas stoves in
developed sites."

* California Campfire Permits are free, valid for the remainder of the
current calendar year, and available from any USFS, BLM, or CDF office.
