[pct-l] Section A to C permanent Water

Hi Cyrille,

 

I did section A two years and and Section B last year.  Both times most
of my distance was done during the summer months.

For example, I did the San Felipe's in August.  Yes it can be hot, but
if you start early in the morning and work the shade it can be
resonable.

The toughest was actually my first trip out - Campo to Lake Moreno.
Lucky me I hit a record heat day in October.  Coming up Butte was a a
struggle as it was 2:00 pm, the hottest part of the day, and no shade.
That is also were I learmed my lesson.  I had taken 4 liters of water
with me.  I had to start conserving water as I was climbing Butte - not
good.  So here is the formula I use based on that.  This assumes that
you are not using any water for cooking.  All the water will be used for
drinking or soaking a 'kerchief to cool down.  I calculate 1 Liter of
water for every 5 miles + one 1 extra.  One very hot days, consider one
additional, on very cool days, the 1 extra can be left out.  In
addition, it really helps to carry some type of electrolyte with you.
This will help with some energy, and for me it helps be from just
burning through the water.  I simply use the Wylers Pink Iemonaide
pouches, or the powdered gatoraide in ziplock bags.

Hello,

I'm looking for reliable permanent water spots from Campo to Interstate
15. I'm still trying to hike these sections in early July, before to get


the Sierra.

How many miles can be done with 8 liters of water in that heat? My Data
book shows many 30 miles waterless tretches....
