I believe too that nothing should go wrong with your approach EXCEPT if 
you meet a border patrol. Once you do, you might never again be able to 
enter the USA legally. This might not be a big deal because you could 
still complete the triple crown. But you would have to start in Canada or 
Mexico and thru-hike.
