[pct-l] Natural History Books

Hi all-  for my thru hike I will require  well-written natural /human
history books for southern california, the sierra, and the cascades of n.
california and southern oregon.  It must be written by someone with a
sense of humor if possible and include information about the first human
inhabitants of each area.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.  oh,
by the way if the books weighed no more than a pound or so each, that
would be a bonus.  John
