I bought a Suunto Vector for this trip and have just
tried it out in snowstorms in Scandinivia. 
It worked really fine, but you have to recalibrate a
lot to get the real altitude. I think this is normal
for all altimeters. 
And if you bring the manual along on the trail, you
will need no other book....
