[pct-l] Transportation (From Whitney Portal)

Another fellow and I will be doing JMT segment sobo from Bishop Pass trail
to Whitney July 17 to 23, exiting at Whitney Portal July 23. We'll then
drive back to Bishop area (South Lake) to retrieve the starting point
vehicle, and then we'll both drive individually to LA. Can give a lift if
July 23 matches your schedule.

In summer months the quota for the Whitney zone is totally subscribed every
single day, although there are some no-shows (and therefore some lucky
devils who pick up permits at the end of days just before the start date on
the unclaimed permits). Do you have your Whitney zone stamps on your
wilderness permits? There is a daily quota for the Whitney zone, which
includes hikers exiting!

Bottom line- If you get to Whitney Portal, there is no sweat to hitch to
Lone Pine, and possibly directly from Whitney Portal to LA. I've read there
is bus service from Lone Pine to LA, but don't know first hand if that is
true.
Regards
