PRobably blue green algae which are know to associate with hot springs.
Travertine is a type of rock is deposited with the aid of blue green algae.

Round cushion shaped rocks are know from australian and supposedly the
oldest living fossils - yep!!!! Blue Green Algae.

Let's hear it for the plants!! or semi-plants!! Or greenish things that have
been around a lot long then us and give us oxygen to breath among other
things.
