[pct-l] Half way Break?

No local knowledge, but from hiking and driving in the area, here is my
input:

Half way point is really around Lassen National Park. Closest larger airport
would be San Francisco or Sacramento; maybe Redding. Also, Southern Oregon
at Medford.

If you are willing to wait until Oregon, I would choose Ashland and take in
a Shakespeare play. Otherwise, there is a several hour drive in store.
Another option is around Lake Tahoe, which may be earlier than you like, but
beautiful area and easy access from Sacramento, Reno, or South Lake Tahoe.
Check with the trail angels at Pooh Corner near Truckee just down from
Donner Pass. Many lodges around the lake. You could drive to Burney Falls
area too. Or Etna.

My conclusion: if you don't want to drive far, you are limited to Ashland or
Lake Tahoe.
