And stretch!!!  Your muscles probably thickened up and tightened up
during your thru-hike (presuming you didn't stretch on your hike).
Running involves a bigger stride and requires more flexibility than
hiking.  So in that sense, thru-hiking works against you as a runner (Two
issues ago, Backpacker had an article about the body of a backpacker.  We
scored great in every category except flexibility.)
