[pct-l] walmart grease pot question

Hi, so I took someone's (I can't remember who's) advice from the list about
using a walmart grease pot for a lightweight cookpot. The other day I fired
it up with my homemade pepsi can stove and windscreen/pot holder. It worked
great except that when the water boiled some fumes were emitted which
smelled pretty nasty, also the pot was discolored where the water was. This
made me worried about whether eating anything out of the pot would be a good
idea.

Has anyone else been gagged by these acrid fumes? Was this some kind of
coating that once burned off will be fine? If I eat from this pot for 2
weeks in a row will I get Alzheimer's or spongiform brain disease?

Thanks for the info, Christy (wanting to preserve what little gray matter is
left)
