I've noticed that Merrill and Vasque and a few others are now making trail 
running shoes or the like with the New Balance toe wrap that thru-hikers have 
said was so important for the longevity of the shoe and protection of the toes.  


Thru-hikers are to the mainstream backpacking world what race cars are to the 
auto industry.
