In Jardines book he has a section on water treatment.
He has not abandoned water treatment altogether, he's
selective about where he drinks from. 

Initially, he filtered everything and realized that was
 unnecessary. Now he filters selectively.

Would you drink unfiltered, untreated water from
Kelso Valley Road?? Hmmm??  :)
