[pct-l] A better Fuel for your white gas stoves

--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Talking to a friend today who does many test on all types of fuels for
stoves. His claim is that " Crown Fuel " which is sold at REI, is much better
than Coleman fuel and contains less gumm than coleman fuels. This may help
keep those MSR fuel lines and tubes cleaner. Randy is the one guy in
Washington state that has more stoves than I and is my " Go To" guy for
stove questions. ( He has lead trips for the Seattle Mountaineers for 20
years) MSR just bailed from the fuel business themselves and this fuel (
Crown fuel ) should be the best for the MSR stove.
Also next time you go to Home Depot or local hardware store , check and
see if you can find any " Exon Clearlite" around. This is a kerosene
subsitute that is the "
VERY BEST" for kerosene stoves or lamps. You cannot even smell it. Cost is
around seven dollars a gallon. Problem is that they quit making it in
December because they claim in didn't sell well. ( Even at 7 bucks a gallon,
it is sold out ) A gallon lasts quite some time in your favorite lamp and no
stink!! Also great in your international stove and so clean. Cost is high
,but no higher than other types of fuel. ( canisters, alcohol )
On another note, didn't mean to step on any toes with my plug for alcohol
stoves. Just bringing up a point that they are a durable option for
thruhiking the PCT and are the most popular stove on the PCT and CDT.
Everyone has their own pet stove they grewn up with and it's hard to drop an
old friend. ( mine was the Optimus 8R) The 8R wasn't the lightest or hottest
stove at the time or is it today ,but still had a bond with it. ( Just as
many of you have a pet stove) All stoves have strong points and a few weak
ones as well no matter which one it is.
