[pct-l] Where does one REALY need an ICE AXE in the Sierras?

--
Rick - I am surprised that your email has not generated the flurry of
responses and differing opinions that usually abound concerning this
topic.

Unfortunately, there is no simple and easy answer to your question.
It depends on a variety of variables. In order to have a better idea
of what you are getting into, please let us know:
1. What time of the season will you be hiking? (August in the
sierras is much different than june)
2. How much alpine hiking/climbing experience do you have?
3. What kind of weight will your pack be?
4. What Kind of footwear will you be using?

I'd be glad to offer my opinion once I know the above information.

peace,
dude
