[pct-l] Wool and Woodstock

--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Take a look at Carl's PCT 1977 web site. Thru-hiker bunch looks like they
made a wrong turn at Pinchot Pass and ended up at Woodstock!! Hiker crowd
looks like they all work for PBS or escaped from an " Honor Corrections
Camp" .
The " Wool" days of old haven't died out yet!! Many companies have
rediscovered the bennies of wool. Smartwool socks made a very durable series
of socks that wear well and don't itch. Filson , Pendleton and Woolrich still
make shirts and pants to fit any bill.
Goodwills and Value Villages abound with good bargains where a hiker can
find tons of shirts, sweaters and shirts for less than a "Gallon Of Gas".
All the explorers for the last six thousand years have relied on all
natural fibers. Hats??? Wool or waxed cotton or even good old straw provide
good service. ( I still hate the looks of those" OR"rain hats with their
bright gaudy colors) Wool felt hats get better looking with time, pack easy.
Same with Straw!! By the time your straw hat is wore out, you'll be in the
Sierras and ready for something else.
Neon Nylon clothing bites!! Next trip out,, Kakis in the desert and
bargain wool in the wet, damp cold mountains.
