I have, not infrequently, caused women to swoon, men to scream in fear,
and
small children to gawk in amazement as I have drank absolutely untreated
water, directly from the stream, in my native Pacific Northwest.  As did
my
father, and his father, and in turn his father, who cleared the land of
knurled, hundreds of feet tall Douglas Fir, chased away vicious Grizzly
and
wildcats, and plowed absolutely virgin soil in his noble quest to grow
acres
and acres of mint in order to freshen the breath of the brave men and
women
who spread the saga of American Democracy all the way to the Pacific
Ocean.

But when the guide book says that some desert pool has been fouled by
cattle, or horses, or migratory birds, Giardia or no, I want my water
filtered.  Call me misguided, call me foolish, call me ruined by an
overly
civilized lifestyle, I just want all extemporaneous...organic
material...filtered away.

Last year at the kick-off party Monte dressed up as a bear
and tried to break into a bear can.

This year, let's have Monte consume giardia tainted water.
Let's see how long he can hold his pop-tarts down.

Last year I talked to 4 people who had or were treating
giardia.

While the source of their giardia is unknown (be it a water
source or bad hygeine), do you really want to find out if your
immune to it on the trail?

Folks, treat your water.
