 If leaving at 5:30 from Border, good water about 4 miles up the trail and
plenty of small spots for a tent. Illegals are busy trying to avoid contact
with anyone, don't worry. Tons of Border Patrol around on the ground and in
the air. Camping at Hauser Canyon with water as well if your up to doing 13
miles. Drugs runners don't want to waste time with hikers either. Probably
run a bigger risk of getting shot in a " Stick Up " in Campo Store than have
any trouble with Illegals.
    Pants for a Trail?? Don't be a whimp, just buy a pair of Carhartts duck
canvas pants. Yes, they weigh more than your pack, but hey , you'll look cool
and they wear like iron. ( And you'll be in style when you get to
Washington.)
