[pct-l] tarp, tent or something, but not nothing

Unless I were invited to camp on the floor of my local backcountry
outfitter, where I could always hasten inside a floor model tent if the
emergency sprinkler system should come on during the night, I would not buy
into the notion that my wild nights spent sleeping in the open come without
the need to purchase "extra insurance." Even in a recycled air environment
such as southern California. Better yet, sew your backcountry insurance in
the form of a lightweight tarp.

These links are ridiculously abstruse, but if you can manage to paste them
into your browser, witness scenes from a 3 day snowstorm that hit
California, particularly So Cal, in early June of 1999 - just in time for
the arrival of thru-hikers. These two photos I took from the Crest, near the
Acorn Trail bomb-off to Wrightwood.

What did the hot dog vendor say to the Zen Monk?

"Let me make you one with everything."

>From the border to Kennedy Meadows you can go without
a tent or tarp. I sleep under the stars almost every
night except a few. I did have a tent and sent it
home once I reach I-10. The only problem is the dew
in the morning hours. Plan on sleeping away from
creeks and sleep higher up.
