[pct-l] Re: The "Great X-Cape" Poncho / Shelter sell-abration

It doesn't bother me if someone simply announces a new piece of gear.

Is it just me or are there others who are tired of
receiving emails on this message board from David
hawking his latest wares? It would seem that this
site is here for us to share ideas and information,
not advertising gear from our own retail
operations(this rant is not to be confused with "hey,
I've got a used ULA P2 pack for sale"). While some of
you know that I am a very strong supporter and
advocate of the cottage industry in lightweight gear -
even interviewing Lynne Whelden about his lightweight
gear products for www.backpackinglight.com - I feel
uncomfortable with David's approach at posting
advertising announcements about his latest products
for sale (as a disclaimer, I have read and enjoyed his
and Carol's journals as well as their website). I
myself own gear by both Glen Van Peski and Henry
Shires and also enjoy reading each of their occasional
postings here on PCT-L. However, they thankfully do
not advertise their products through this forum. I
guess I might feel a little differently about how
David advertises here if he also included in his
website instructions for making your own products
based on his design (as Henry and Glen have done).
This approach would seem more PCT-L communal oriented.
As I said earlier - it could just me who feels this
way. Ahh, what the heck - maybe I just need to to go
for a hike.

It was good seeing some of you folks again on the
trail and at the ALDHA-West gathering this year.
