[pct-l] The subjectiveness of a thru-hike

I think the important thing is to get to wherever you need to get to.
This will likely be different from what you thought it was when
you started.    I'm surprised at the universality of that latter
sentiment - it's expressed all the time by persons who have done
e.g. El Camino de Santiago in Europe.

In twenty billion years it certainly won't matter who did exactly
what, and probably not in twenty years.     What will matter
is whether they became a better person for it - according to somebody's
idea of "better".
