At the risk of showing that I don't follow the mail list closely, I've look=
ed at the last two weeks and don't see any dialogue regarding the national =
forest closures. Angeles, San Bernardino, and Cleveland National Forests h=
ave been closed until the end of November. They are considering closing th=
e Los Padres as well. Only major highway traffic is allowed through NF lan=
ds -- no stopping along the road. County and BLM lands are not affected. =
The fine for being found inside the forest boundaries is $5,000 per individ=
ual, $10,000 per organization. Rumor has it that the rangers aren't issuin=
g warnings. This has created a furor amongst outdoor enthusiasts, you can =
be sure. (This humble author is simply reporting facts as known -- I'll le=
ave the postulating to y'all.)
There are a few southbound PCTers on their way; their boxes show their arri=
val some time this week. Doesn't look like they're going to be able to fin=
ish.
