my $0.02...

i would recommend that one stay at the grand pacific hostel (not
associated with hostelling international) rather than the hi hostel in
san diego for the following reasons:

1) it is $4 cheaper
2) it has much more character
3) they allow you to consume alcohol on the premesis
4) it smells better

the grand pacific hostel is located on 5th street and G or F street, on
the west side of the street, just 2 blocks north of the hi hostel on
market st.
