will understand why.  The gray, speckled, chicken-like birds show absolutely 
no fear of man.  Not surprisingly, they are of necessity a protected species. 
 Spruce grouse feed on the needles and buds of evergreens, which probably 
explains why they do not taste so good.  They are normally encountered only 
in NH and Maine on the AT" *
