[pct-l] Kearsarge Pass Trail

Latest reports are lotsa bears although we experienced no problems on the
Kearsarge Pass Trail (camped below Gilbert Lake) last week.  You'll be
required to use a bear cannister & risk citation, fine, etc. if you're found
not to have one.  The Lone Pine ranger station (on Hwy 395, south end of
town) rents them for $5 a trip, though - can't beat the price.  At the
ranger station they've got lots of photos of the recent bear damage to
vehicles at Whitney Portal - didn't see any from Onion Valley but wasn't
looking very hard.
